Those purple flowers

I love these plants.
At this time of the year the
purple flowers spews out of them as a swirve and curve in a
Dr. Seus drawing.

Multiple exposures are fun.

I love exposing film once, twice, and even three times. I have only done this on one singular camera by manually rewinding the film, and then advancing it once again to trigger the shutter button. One thing that I haven't gotten "down pat" is how to make sure that the 2nd or 3rd exposure is in the exact frame as the 1st exposure. There really is no way to know, unless you are completely OCD and can gauge the film winder with the film advancement knob. I always end up getting really abstract frames that overlap, that could technically be printed as one large panoramic photograph. When you get the film developed and scanned by another party, they often make a "crop" for the image, which is the standard 2/.3 ratio that can be later be enlarged. Typically you would have to scan the film yourself if you would like to have the complete panoramic-esque photo to work with. Be sure to NOT get your negatives cut!

It is rare if you can get the film with a perfect 2nd exposure right over the 1st.

I have a point and shoot Olympus Infinity II, which automatically winds in the film for you. I love that when the roll is done it winds it right back.
The magic of this camera is that it leaves the small tab of film out of the container. This allows you to safely remove the film from the camera without any exposures, and then load it into another camera. As you may know... rolling film back into its container is hard to gauge, and once it is all rolled in...that's it...unless you want to risk going into the dark and dissect and reassemble the roll.

My next venture for photography...
Take a full roll of film on the Olympus Infinity II...
Then reload into a camera that has a masking capability, such as a Fisheye, or Panorama.
This way the masked areas will show case the original photo, while the unmasked area will showcase the secondly exposed photo.

A fellow photographer of mine, Traci McMillan seems to have got it down pat. Look at the amazing double exposed photos she created.

Cheers!

Zeiss Ikon Nettar : Abstaction

Just got a roll of Fuji Velvia 100F, X-processed at the lab.

The abstraction is pleasing! I just love the fact that these images were created on film!

Searching...

The internet brings offers too many tangents. It's the button clicking game. Can you stay on task? Will you discover something worthy?

Today I came across a photo blog in the midst of my various searching results. A woman by the name of Valerie J. Cochran started a photo blog called   your waitress  in 2004 of all analog photography. I can't help but be drawn to the name of the blog as well as the content. (Reason being...I am a waitress and a photographer...I can relate.) Most subject matter consists of urban landscapes and elements within. She once lived in Berkeley & Oakland, until a recent move to her hometown of Kansas City, Missouri.

ode to miss, san francisco 2008, film noir

Her blog reminded me alot of what I am interested in, as far as photography is concerned.

It is the spontaneous moments.
Time and Place
The urban setting.
The people.
The things
Subject Matter.
The composition.
The camera.
The film.
The Tools.

The romanticism of the everyday can be exposed in a photograph. Especially when it is grainy!

Twiddling twiddling...

...my thumbs.
For many reasons.
But one reason being pay day - so that I can finally have enough money to pay for the 5 rolls of film I dropped off more than a month ago. Times are ruff.
In the meantime I have completely fired up an Instagram account, and seem to be semi-addicted.
One of my favorite past-times. Is this a bad thing?
It is amazing how you can transform a little shanty photo into a full fledge filtered medium format spectac-ulaaaar!

And a new infatuation... Taking pictures of pictures! WOW...

was at my Mom's and found these blasts from my past...so pricless...and I'm loving the collage potential with Instagram. Really fun.

So let's just hope I make some money soon so I can get those 5 rolls of film. Until then, CHEERS!

...and try not to twiddle your thumbs too much.

Making my first Blurb book

The book is titled :
(phishy) pHocus Pocus

obviously a play on words...i'll tell you what kind of words.

  • the ph refers to photography/photos
  • phishy comes from the word fishy, reference to fisheye camera, all photos are shot with a Lomography Fisheye No.1
  • pH may refer to its use in chemistry, chemicals used to develop these analogue photos, yup that's right - developed - FILM ya'll !

so now you put the words together and it makes for a fun saying and clever title (i think)

hmmmm i'm going to get a "pilot" book printed...and maybe try and market it? wouldn't that be amazing! WOW... thanks you Blurb.com...you are making my life so exciting now!

Why?

I am so sick of online crap, I like stuff I can hold in my hand. And a book you can!

In the meantime here is a proof preview of my 1st photography book :

About me?

Here I am writing about myself in the 3rd person
(about time for a small bio, lets get the art ball rolling!) - -
Nichole is a crazy Californian residing in the East Bay Area, who seeps artistry from the very veins of her soul. Multiple disciplines are chosen for her work, but her practices greatly dwell in photography, video, and installation. With that said, she also has a fond interest in the performing arts, illustration, and sculpture, which may often creep there way into works. Her work ponders around instantaneity and streams of consciousness.
In 2011 she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Digital Media Arts from The College of Humanities at San Jose State University. In San Jose she became an active student of CADRE laboratories and volunteered with the SJICA (Institute of Contemporary Art), while maintaining a spot on the Dean's List. She also showed with the SxM Guild (Sculpture and Experimental Media), upon her final solo show "get lost swirly eyes."  Before this accomplishment, much of her time was spent twiddling her thumbs at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, CA where an Associate in Arts was earned. Here she worked to present "My Colors," a solo show of cyanotype sun prints on a range of colored papers, created from digitally and manually produced enlarged negatives.
She continually strives to create work and develop ideas, whether it be shooting photographs with her toy cameras, or conceptually plotting an intricate multimedia installation.
I'm not sure if this is appropriate...but I'll work with it for now.
Working on a portfolio on Tumblr...and pondering a physical portfolio book to be created on Blurb! only $10.95 for a 10" x 10" soft cover 20 pages. Not bad.
