Smiling Faces

There is something about portraiture that I love. My method is a little spontaneous, but for some reason I always enjoy the results. I like to put the camera in the person's face and just snap it. Is that wrong? I love the moment of surprise that is or is not captured. The people that pretend your not there, and the ones that throw on a cheesy one just for you. 

These photos were taken at a the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco during the last Radiohead's Kid A Undercover event. 

They were taken with a disposable camera i bought at a thrift store in the Mission. I didn't know if the film was damaged or not, but with the camera well equipped with a flash I decided to shoot till the end.

It was fun.

Going, going, back to, back to...

SCHOOL?

should I? With my skills not exactly fitting into the competitive job arena of today i feel it may be time to pump up the volume with a more credible educational background. The perks of re-entering the educational arena is the potential to collaborate and connect with individuals with similar goals.

An area I would like to gain some experience is film/video production. The nitty gritty stuff, like handling cameras and organzing sets. Maybe even directing. I have an eye for composition. Oooooooh...this makes me think of Federico Fellini, the Italian film maker. I want to live in his films.

On the other hand....

I just found a great article/resource for film/art schools in the Bay Area. The article ranges experience from community college, to graduate studies, to organizations that offer seminars and certificate programs.

Zines and New works.

Howdy all,

Thanks to Bay Area Art Grind I found an amazing opportunity to contribute to a color film zine based in Portland, Oregon called...
'" Incandescent "'.
This is a zine that supports amateur and up in coming color film photographers, allowing them to submit their work without a fee!
YES, without a FEE! Fantastic. It's FREE!
I have to admit, half the time I want to submit my work to a show, magazine, etc. I get so discouraged when I find out there is a fee. I work hard just to support myself and my love of photography among other art forms, and then just to pay to get your work considered can be hard. Sometimes you have to just bite the bullet and tell yourself it is worth it, but otherwise it is unsure of you getting your work shown that it is easy to forget about the entire opportunity and move on to the next (free) one.
But, not to be a wah wah cry baby about it! I'm going to submit some work...and among this zine...it brings me to some other zines/mags that have some great ongoing opportunities.
